COURSE TITLE:
DESTINATION GEOGRAPHY

DESCRIPTION:
This course presents the travel and tourism destinations that are regularly top sellers, according to various travel sites, including TripAdvisor, The Lonely Planet, the American Society of Travel Agents and National Geographic. In North America, these destinations include the states of Florida, Arizona, New York, Hawaii, and California; the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec in Canada; and the country of Mexico. In addition, we will present countries from around the world including in Europe, Asia, Middle East/Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean and nearby island nations, and the South Pacific. Maps are presented with an orientation to location of each destination. The course treats physical, locational and cultural geography as a travel sales product. A good world atlas can greatly aid you in your study of Destination Geography.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify via a map the top travel destinations
  • Understand the following information for each destination presented: how to get there, how to get around, places to visit, things to do, things to see, cultural tips, climate and client appeal
  • Identify major tourist sites and attractions at each destination
GRADING CRITERIA:
Successful completion of each quiz in each region. Successful completion of the final comprehensive exam.
COURSE OUTLINE:
The world is broken into regions. Each region includes multiple micro-lessons about select countries. The micro-lessons have a map of the destination, facts, a description, client appeal for the area, tourist season, how to get around and recommended itinerary. Each region will have a quiz regarding the information covered in the micro-lessons, offering immediate feedback.

North America - United States (Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, New York), Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec) and Mexico (Central, West, Yucatan)
Caribbean - Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Central/South America - Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru
Europe - Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey
Middle East/Africa - Israel, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa
Asia - Cambodia, Hong Kong (China), India, Japan, Maldives, Thailand, Vietnam
South Pacific/Island Nations - Australia, French Polynesia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand Exercise
